Harriet
Harriet was born c. 1824-1834. Samuel A. Hoshour (as a representative of the Western Lunatic Asylum) placed an advertisement in the Staunton Vindicator on July 15, 1864 listing enslaved workers hired by the Western Lunatic Asylum from their owners who were taken by the U. S. Army June 9 and 10, 1864. Harriet and her child, owned by William J. Shumate, were hired out to the Asylum by Shumate and were included in this list.
