Leslie Anderson

Leslie Anderson was born c. 1849 in Roanoke County, a son of Edmond Anderson (born c. 1810 in Bath County, Virginia, died 1887 in Washington County, Virginia) and Rosetta Lucas Anderson (born c. 1818 in Augusta County, Virginia, died in Washington County, Virginia) Leslie Anderson married Susan Anderson, a daughter of Thomas Anderson and Adeline Broady Anderson. Susan Anderson and her mother were born in Washington County, Virginia. Thomas Anderson was born in North Carolina and was a farmer in Washington County, Virginia. Susan Anderson and her parents were all free born. Thomas Anderson and Adeline Broady Anderson had at least one other child, a daughter named Mary. They registered their marriage in Washington County, Virginia.

Leslie and Susan Anderson had at least 9 children:

  • William T. Anderson, born 1882
  • Adeline Anderson, born 1883, died young
  • John L. Anderson, born 1885
  • Charles E. Anderson, born 1888
  • Robert B. Anderson, born 1891
  • Susie M. Anderson, born 1893
  • Blanche Anderson, born 1896
  • Jane E. Anderson, born 1898
  • Leslie Anderson, Jr., born c. 1900/1901

Several of their children were teachers in Washington County, Virginia.

Leslie Anderson and Susan (Anderson) Anderson lived in Abingdon, Virginia. He was a carpenter and likely worked with his father and brother in Washington County, Virginia. His father, Edmond Anderson, lived with him after the death of his mother. Lesie Anderson died in 1924. Susan Anderson died in 1929. Several of their children were teachers.

William Madison Peyton lived in Staunton, Virginia, in Bath County, Virginia, in Roanoke County, Virginia at “Elmwood,” now Elmwood Park, in Roanoke, Virginia, in New York, at “Alta Vista” in Albemarle County, Virginia, and also owned property in what is now West Virginia.
