Maria Jeffries

Maria Jeffries, daughter of Richard Jeffries and Betsy (Foster) Jeffries, was born c. 1838 in Roanoke County, Virginia. William Madison Peyton lived in Staunton, Virginia, Bath County, Virginia, Roanoke County, Virginia at “Elmwood,” now Elmwood Park in Roanoke, Virginia, in New York, and at “Alta Vista” in Albemarle County, Virginia. Maria Jeffries registered her marriage to Lee Davis, born c. 1830 in Amherst, Virginia, with the Freedmen’s Bureau in Roanoke County, Virginia. Lee Davis worked as a laborer and carpenter. They lived near her parents after the Civil War. Lee Davis and Maria (Jeffries) Davis had 6 known children:

  • Richard Davis, born c. 1862
  • Lee Davis, born c. 1864
  • Jane Davis, born c. 1866
  • Edmond Davis, born c. 1868
  • Lucy Davis, born c. 1870
  • William Davis, born c. 1872.

Maria (Jeffries) Davis died between 1871 and 1880.
