Nancy Ashby

Nancy Ashby was a young girl in 1863. She was advertised in the Staunton Vindicator on April 17, 1863 as a runaway by William J. Shumate. Nancy ran away in April,1863 along with George Talbot/Taylor, Archy Gower, and Sarah Gaskins/Jenkins. They were all later caught near Harrisonburg, Virginia. Shumate had purchased them somewhere in the Valley of Virginia.
