Betsy Foster

Betsy Foster was born c. 1806 in Bath County, Virginia. William Madison Peyton lived in Staunton, Virginia, Bath County, Virginia, Roanoke County, Virginia at “Elmwood,” now Elmwood Park in Roanoke, Virginia, in New York, and at “Alta Vista” in Albemarle County, Virginia. Her marriage to Richard Jeffries, born c. 1805 in Nottoway County, Virginia, was registered with the Freedmen’s Bureau in Roanoke County, Virginia. Betsy Jeffries and her husband, a miller and farm laborer, lived in Roanoke County, Virginia near their daughter and her family. Richard and Betsy Jeffries had two surviving children:

  • Peter Jeffries, born c. 1836 in Roanoke County, Virginia, married Lucy Campbell
  • Maria Jeffries, born c. 1838 in Roanoke County, Virginia, married Lee Davis
